Makerere University and SoonPay Launch Landmark Blockchain & Remittance Innovation Program
Makerere University has partnered with global fintech company SoonPay LLC to launch Uganda's first university-led Blockchain & Remittance Innovation Program. The launch will take place on 6th December 2025 at the Yusuf Lule Central Teaching Facility Auditorium, Makerere Main Campus.
The initiative aims to equip over 1,000 students with practical skills in blockchain technology, digital payments, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion. The event, themed "Innovation and Financial Inclusion for a Secure Future," will feature blockchain workshops, partner presentations, tech exhibitions, and a live demonstration of the SoonPay Remittance Platform.
Makerere University leadership hailed the partnership as a major step in strengthening Uganda's digital economy, while SoonPay emphasized its commitment to supporting youth innovation and cross-border financial connectivity.
